    New WRX owner from CO

Whats up everyone!!! My wife and I are loving the WRX, my father-in-law drove it last night and is already making plans to buy one. That is sick!

I have one quick question to everyone? My wife was just told that when the turbo kicks in, it burns oil up really fast and that you need to check the oil every 1000 miles. Is this true? I already plan on taking really good care of this car, just need to know what tips and tricks I need to do to keep this car like new!

Thanks and can't wait to chat with everyone!
    Scott

    Welcome fellow Coloradoan!

It's good to watch oil consumption... but I have 70k on the odometer, had the car close to 300whp for a while(60k) and now 380whp... and I don't burn any oil.

I would always check the oil level at 1,000 miles if you truly want to ensure you are taking the best care of the car that you can be! Mine burns about 1/2 qt of oil every 3,000 miles pushing 300whp and 384wtq. That being said, Royal purple 5w30 is sweet stuff, but any synthetic will work.

your burning oil because it's royal purple. Do NOT use royal purple in our cars. They are not GF-4 rated for our engines.

Any 5w30 would work... but Subaru has their own branded 5w30 synthetic that just came out... and that's what I'd stick to in a new Subaru.

Btw... I don't live too far north of you. Let's go for a drive

I have an 04 STi and burning a that amount of oil is perfectly normal. Royal purple is perfect to use in my engine I do not have to worry about GF-4 rating those are for 2008+ wrx/sti's. Also Royal Purple chose not to meet those requirements because they say it would downgrade the quality of their oil, and all in the name of longer lasting exhaust catalyst. What oil you use comes down to opinion, like a wise tuner once said to me, if you can show me any definitive results in long term tests that prove it has saved your engine, then I may consider switching. Im down for a spirited drive sometime, Im in the Denver area as well.

Just reading around and knowing what my 08 sti does I would check the oil at least every week. I tend to burn through a half quart of oil fast. Though that could just be how I drive. I am hard on my car, but I take care of her.

Just take care of her and she will be good to you.

Also congrats on the car love the wheel's the wrx came with.
