Hi Guys,
I plan on painting my tails this weekend and have seen and read the forums about painting your tailights with krylon and clear coat. However the other walkthrough involves taking the lights out. I was wondering whether anyone has just taped around the tail lights and sprayed directly over it? This seems like a much easier solution? Any thoughts?

What year is your car? Cause it looks like dookie on the new ones. But if you DO go for it I'd take them out. It's not that hard.

you can buy the overlays instead. completely reversible if you want.
where at?
i'm sure some other member will chime in to help you, because unfortunately, i have never looked into them but they are available and a lot of people have done it. search through the vendor forums or search through some threads; you're sure to come up with the source. good luck!
You have to take off the taillights if you are going to paint them.I wouldn't risk painting them on the car if I were you.To take them off you will need a socket wrench & an extender.
You can find instructions on where to buy & how to install overlays or how to paint in the thread in my signature post #16.

Bluebat overlays ...... lots of photos here ..... Subaru 2008 WRX STI Overlays pictures by BlueBatmobile2005 - Photobucket
One of the best mods I've done to the car ..... I like the reversibility.

Remove them from your car to prevent the risk or runs, sags, and obviously overspray.

lots of people on iclub saying the overlays from blue balls is hard to do, even a professional says he wont touch new impreza tails.
