stage 1/2 question

i hear everyone talking about their stage 1 or 2 wrx. Can someone please explain this to me?

The terms are only meaningful in terms of marketing and their definition varies depending on the model of car and the source of parts. Basically these are parts lists and mod lists. See the link in my signature for more info.

Stage 1 is essentially mild engine management (tuning) without supporting modifications.

Stage 2 requires a turboback exhaust at minimum with more aggressive engine management.

so stage 1 is just the accessport, and stage 2 is exhaust + accessport + whatever other bolt on mods you can do?

Cobb outlines the modifications needed for their Stage I/II maps.

The only additional modification needed is a catless uppipe on the 2.0L cars.
