The Cobb AP is recommended for any Subaru WRX or STI, I have it on my WRX and it did make a world of difference just like that post said. I'd have to say it's definitely worth it, and most people here will likely agree.

2011 STI Review of COBB AccessPORT on Stage 1
The Cobb AP is recommended for any Subaru WRX or STI, I have it on my WRX and it did make a world of difference just like that post said. I'd have to say it's definitely worth it, and most people here will likely agree.
thanks monchis! What is it exactly? Is it like a small computer that somehow changes the chip in the car? Do you always keep it plugged in?
Is there a reason for the bad stock tune? Are they trying to get in under some motorsport rules for limitations on production models?
I have no clue about why their stock tune is the way it is. However, the AP is a small computer that you plug in to your OBD II Port and download a different tune into the ECU. After you're done, you simply disconnect it and drive around like if your car was stock. If you want to monitor your car's vital signs, the AP would then get plugged in and kept there while you drive, otherwise I keep it in my glovebox.
It is a means to reflash you ECU. You don't have to keep it plugged in. There are cheaper ways to flash the ECU but the Accessport is the most user friendly. Subaru has to consider more than just performance when building a car, most notably the EPA. To conform to EPA regulations, the stock map runs leaner than optimal for performance

so once you reflash the ECU it tunes the car but does it do anything with mpg regarding that aspect of this AP
mpg usually remains the same or gets even better sometimes.
