Assuming that you are planning on buying new ... the 2012 will be the same as the 2011 (per Subaru's recent comments on plans for the WRX/STI). Considering how many issues they have faced getting out 2011s this year, your biggest challenge is finding one on a lot right now. Some areas have them, many do not. I had to order, and got it well before Japan got hit and the supply and distribution networks got FUBAR. Either way you are getting the same car with a 2011/12 so I would tell you to start looking and see what is out there. If you like what the car has to offer - turbo, AWD, etc. - then start looking now!

Thats the reason why i want to wait. I've been reading this site for a while and I've also been searching for the 2011. I live in iowa and the closest one i've found is in st louis. I also just graduated from college back in december and i think that finacing will be a little harder to get. So i'm going to wait plus i can save some dough in the mean time.

If you are not in a rush, then it sounds like it makes sense to wait for a bit. Who knows, by the time you are ready there may be more info out about Subaru's plans for the next generation of WRX/STIs.

    Good luck with the process.

no reason to wait for 2012's - they aren't going to be super-special. Likely they'll have one or two pieces of trim different from the 2011's (but it's confirmed that they will be 2011's, essentially). 2013's are likely to be direct-injection with a new body (but no guarantees).

I hope "new body" means even wider stance, meaner front end and the extra power to back it up.

it's the 2012 impreza with a hoodscoop and probably a widebody look. Seeing what they've done engine-wise, it's unclear whether there'll be more power, but better fuel economy is likely. It'll be the FB engine with a turbo, but nobody really knows what that means yet because apparently subaru hasn't figured that out yet.

Waiting one year will be hard enough so I don't think i can wait 2 years.
