    New '04 WRX owner

Hey guys, I recently purchased a '04 WRX. The guy who owned it before me drove it very hard and didn't install a turbo timer so the turbo has coked up. It needs to be replaced and I'm thinking of just upgrading the turbo instead buying an oem one. I know I would need to upgrade the injectors and oil pump and get a new ecu map. Also I'm putting a turbo timer on it. Are there any other upgrades I would need to make to the engine? Also, It came with a CAI a TBE and an upgraded BOV.

Welcome. I'm new too. Out of curiosity how much did you get the car for?

There is no need for a turbo timer. The WRX isn't a DSM. If the turbo has failed, suspect another root cause.

Agreed. IMO a possible issue for the turbo may be the fact that there was no tune. You will find quickly on this website that Subaru's can be finicky cars, especially when upgrades that change the fuel mapping, etc (Intake, Downpipe) are not grouped with proper engine management. So before any further damage is done to the vehicle either get a tune (such as a Cobb Accessport or protune) or take of the aftermarket parts.

As far as a new turbo goes, do some research and figure out exactly what you want to use the car for and then go from there.

    Oh, and welcome!
