    First time owner (Tomorrow)

Obviously Im new here so Id like to start off with "Hi everybody"

Like the title says I plan on buying my first WRX tomorrow. I have a few questions and Im going to find the right section to post a full thread but I thought I would ask here as well

    02 WRX wagon M/T 172,xxx

What are major items/areas I need to check and pay close attention to when I check this thing out tomorrow and whats the best way to go about checking said items/areas.

"Hypothetical" 02 wagon m/t 172k miles 7/10 overall. Whats it worth

I know its kinda hard to price with out knowing more about it but whatever advice you can provide would be greatly appreciated

Thanks all and I look forward to spender many many hours here

    Welcome ______

There is no way to tell you what a car is worth beyond advising you to check KBB, Edmunds, and NADA. One person's "7/10" is anothers "5/10".

Have the car looked over by your mechanic and while it's there, have compression/leakdown tests performed.

My quess between 7-9k. Check ife its been modded, check for leaks, and check to see how tranny handles. Ife it shifts ruff as in feels liked ur hitting a wall when ur going wot then the gears might be going also when ured test driving ride it hard check for hesitation in acceleration and any moaning, groaning, or grinding noises make sure services are up to date. And if ur buying it gona to a shop and have them check ife its been tuned before. It will suck ife the car was modded and then stripped and not retuned. Thats my advice but im not a expert good luck

I have to assume the worst but could the 2nd gear thing be a clutch issue. Ive heard the WRX has a "glass box" so it needing a new trans wouldnt be out of the question

    Thanks

I forgot to mention this wont be my everyday driver until Oct. at the earliest so I have some time to fix minor things. I do understand your "one persons 7 is anthers 5" and with that being said if a car is worth 7,000 how much should be knocked off for the grinding 2nd gear (bad trans)

    Thanks

I would suggest bring it in and have a mechanic go over it. You might want to drive it a little bit and find out how it drives for yourself. Are you going to do the repairs to the transmission yourself, or bring it in? Really without knowing more, its hard to say what the value is worth. I hate for someone to buy a basketcase or a car that is ready to fall apart.

It was a no go.... The car wouldn't get 2nd at all. 1,3,4,5,R worked fine but 2nd was completly blocked. I tried matching revs, I tried pushing the clutch in a few times, I tried everything so I brought it back and was on my way. its a shame to he had a FSH all clean fluids olnly real down fall i found was a 3" turbo back and a short ram with no record of tuning after mods.

Im want to thank you all once again. Ill be around, I just have to get myself a WRX now
