Sounds like the best solution ^_^

SeatleJeremy, There are no tuning shops. and the big auto repair places that would be able to give me the codes for less than 75% of what it would cost to just buy the cable and O2 sensor, and it'd probably make more sense to have my own cable anyway just means i'll need to wait a few weeks before i can DD it. i had a brief look for an e-tuner, but didn't have much luck. would you by any chance be able to recommend one? I had a look at romraider, but I'm a little worried about screwing my car up, I mean I work in the printing industry which is fairly technical, and I know how easy it is for someone to screw something up. I can only imagine that ECU re-flashing is substantially more risky :P

By the way thanks for the help so far.

Just spoke to a friend who has a USB to OBDII cable, would that be good enough for me to see if the ECU is coding? would you be able to recommend any programs that would work? my friend has ones for his VW, and they all say they only work on the Subaru Traviq

I have never purchased an etune, but I have read that XPT does a good job. You will need to contact them to find out pricing and availability for tuning a JDM car.
XPT Tuning, The XPT Tuning Online Store

Any etuner will need a complete list of performance mods installed on the car, as well as engine/transmission type. They will also need to know the ECU type, but I'm sure that information will be displayed in the RomRadier or OpenECU software.

Tuning an ECU for the first time can be intimidating. Best to leave the hard part (making the map) to the experts.

    Glad to help ^_^

    Thanks guys.

@zax, I sold the old one because TBH I got tired of the coil overs. they were just too damn hard and unforgiving and one of them ruptured and it was a whole crap load of drama to fix the issue. Also it had started to feel loose (like a car that had done lots of millage). So I sold it... To a friend of mine, who after about 4 months of owning it, managed to jump it 10 meters and crash it through a hedge, a fence, an electric fence and a brick wall. He must have been going at about 170Km/h. the car was pretty much toast after that, my friend was totally fine, not a scratch on him (Subaru safety for the win) car still starts, and runs more or less ok, but he's decided to part it out, because the chassis is bent pretty badly. Sufficed to say he wasn't sober at the time.

@rage-wrx, :P it is quite a coincidence. I'm hoping this one is a little less sunburnt than the sedan was.
