    Cobb makes a great shifter.

Bang/buck, bushings are more important than the lever.

Not necessarily, what are you looking for? The lever makes for shorter throws / reduced height. The bushings reduce play in the assembly.

    Bushings:
06-08 5MT Holy Shift Kit (Wide)

If you wanted a lever/bushing combo:

I think TIC is still having their group buy which would reduce the price of that kit.

I prefer the kartboy shifter. Do that with all the Kartboy & TIC bushings and possibly a trans mount, outrigger bushings etc etc and you will be extremely happy. My shifter feels heavenly and i still have a lot of the bushings and mounts to go

I think it will, but you could always ask TIC themselves. They are very helpful.

So if its the bushings that matter and the height of the throw, whats stopping me from getting bushings and just hacking the shifter down a bit with a saw? My brother did that for his 67 camaro.. What would be the difference?

The bushings just help get rid of the sloppiness and make the shifting more firm with more positive feedback. Cutting it will lower your shifter but not change the distance the shifter must travel to engage a gear. Basic geometry says (i think?) It would probably help a little but nowhere near the feel and reduce in travel as a kartboy, cobb, sti etc. Plus then you have to cut it, rethread it, hope you dont mess up and you still just have a stock shifter that is now harder to reach.
