New member, plan on buying wrx in very near future

so i read the sticky on buying a wrx and its got me kind of stumped. I was originally thinking of buying a used wrx 05-09ish with under 75k miles but after i read all that is involved in buying a used one im thinking of buying one new. i guess im just worried because ive never owned a turbo car and I dont want to buy somethinng that I will have to dump a lot of money into right after. question is what is everybody paying for their 2011 models monthly? i was thinking about leasing to keep my payment down and then buying it out after the lease is done. i wasnt planning to mod it until its almost paid off anyways so do you guys think thats a good idea?

I can't envision a scenario not involving a business vehicle tax writeoff where leasing is a good idea.

You are paying to rent a car with mileage restrictions, taking a hit on the interest, and then buying a used rental car.

    Just IMO.

With a few exceptions (see 2009 engine failure thread, for example) the cars are generally OK. It's the owners and their choices (unauthorized parts, etc.) that are the leading cause of failures IMO.

I'm in the exact same boat, been looking at used WRX's of the same year and am now scared I might buy something I may regret...I hear alot about compression/leakdown tests but in reality it will be hard to do something like that before you even own the car.

The biggest thing is like SD_GR said, the owner will be the biggest factor. Look for bone stock cars with an older owner who would be less likely to beat on their car. I'm keeping optimistic about the car I've been looking at, going to go test drive it within the week. Taking my father along as he is very mechanically inclined and attuned to wierd noises, etc. Good luck!
