    Plz Help

Hey guys I got a question

So recently I had a "collision" with a curb. I took the car to the dealer they said it needs body work. So i called insurance company which said they wanted me to take it to this shop near by. So after much hesitation i finally agreed.

Well the guy thats working on my car gave me a estimate that describes the repair.

When I got there, first even though i told the insurance company that the plastic from the passanger side mirror fell off, the guy at body shop did not even bother looking at it. He said "it looked fine" even though there is a gap and the thing is loosely attached cuz i guess one of the clips holding it in place is broken/bend.

When I looked at the estimate shows he ordered 16 inch wheel when the car uses 17 inches. There is a lot of things that say stabilizer bar w/o turbo tr strut w/o turbo. I'm wondering if he's somehow thinking hes working on a regular Impreza.

What would u guys do if u were in my shoes. Should I call the insurance company and tell them I want a different body shop as this one clearly has issues?

    This sucks.

More or less if your insurance doesn't do what you ask them they are not providing you the service you're paying for. My insurance company will bend over backwards for me. Especially after a little fudge up on their part when my BMW was totalled out. But if you don't like the shop your insurance company suggested take it somewhere else. I'm pretty sure it's against the law for the insurance company to dictate where you can and cannot take your car. This is why they have claim adjusters to determine a rough estimate of how much it will cost so you don't end up taking it to some backyard garage and having them charge you 10k for a 1500$ job.

true, you sully dictate where ya want your car fixed, one thing that i learned was to take it to the most outragous priced shop ya can, (usually dealer) have ins cut ya a check and then take it to somewhere ya are comfortable w/ or do it all yourself, now depending on what kind of coverage ya have ya should request all oem brand new parts because thats what ya want not used or re-ferbished, this way ya can get some extra money for whatev upgrades if ya want or whatever, if ya have any issue w/ the shop and they havent done repairs take it somewhere else that ya know is knowing what they are doing, my last spill (curb as well.. thoes d@mn things come outta no-where ) i made off pretty good, i did all myself, during removal of all parts taking tons of pics and makin a huge fit over little things to get the most out of each issue, dont let the shop or adjuster walk on ya, YOU PAY ins each month for things like this so take fullll advantage and milk every last drop!!! good luck

Do you actually say "ya" when you're talking instead of "you?" Because you aren't saying "yar" or "yare" instead of "your" and "you're." I guess this mostly because you'll sound like a pirate. I find your posts painful to read and I find myself rereading them to try and understand the point you're trying to convey.

What you just told him to do was defraud the insurance company. This is illegal. You pay insurance to repair the vehicle to the condition it was before whatever accident you had. Intentionally getting a quote that is inflated so that the insurance company writes you a bigger check is illegal. Most insurance adjusters today have a program on their computer that will tell them about how much the repairs to your vehicle will cost.

Now OP, what you CAN do that is NOT illegal is get your insurance adjuster to come up with a quote. They have to include labor in the quote so if you do the work yourself you'll make out with a couple hundred bucks. Now if you run into more problems along the way that were caused by the accident you're going to have a difficult time convincing the insurance company to grant you a supplemental claim. My advice is to just take it to a shop or dealership you trust and have them do the work. When I had my...."incident"....My car went back and forth to the shop a few times and all the costs were on the insurance company's dime. Just my .02. And dont listen to KnightFury.

lol well i never really thought about it till ya brought it up lol i guess i do say ya instead of you, probably my lazy text skillz lol,
my post on here are quickly written due to bein at work he he sry if they are a bit difficult to follow; as i dont have much time to re-read or make corrections, its a bit hard for me to raise my eye patch w/ me hook to view. arrggg lol,
now YOU do give good advice but what i have stated earlier was actually told to me by my ins adjuster, i had a small slip up and bent a controll arm and inner tie rod, my quote i wrote up before takin it to the shop was around 2200. (fender was mushed and need new rims as well) when i took it to the dealer they gave me a quote of about 2500., now my adjuster came out to me looked over the car and instructed me to get the highest price avl from a specialist shop and either take it to a shop w/ a lower quote or do it myself, i ended up doing all repairs myself ( with me pirate mates) and was abel to fully uprgade suspension controll and trailing arms and full polly bushings among numerous other things , im in OR so ins. laws may be different than where you are but i dont think so, and have been informed of how to go about this by two different adjustors so if i get it from 2 seperate sources that work for the company thats not fraud, just a smarter way to walk through their hoops (and not get swashbuckeled), i think if ya were to change your deductable then submit a claim that is fraud , but this is not nor is it illegal, reguardless the insurance company will cut you a check it will be up to you what to do w/ it after. not fraud, not illegal.

Now during the repairs i came accross a few more things that were out of shape due to my what they classify "accident" and had no prob at all informing my agent and getting an extra check, didnt even have to see the adjuster just sent him some pics and he had a check for me, if ya have issues sounds like YA need to get better insurance , or its also wise to do some research on things before YA say someone is wrong when they have ben in the exact situation more than once, ... OUCH DREWS JUST PLAIN OUCH

Not tryin to start a pissin match here ,FUNNY4LIFE you were lookin for some advice just lettin ya know what has been done when in your shoes, Ultimately its up to you what to do w/ your car and where to take it, if your like most of us on this forum we only want the best for our cars, IMO talk to your agent; not the adjustor and see the best way to go about it, Now what DREWS suggested " getting a check from the adjuster and doing the repairs yourself" Is exactly what i said now the adjuster writes the check based on the quote you get from whichever shop ya take it to, you get a high quote from a big time shop or a small quote from a small shop the check is coming from the same source and if ya do the repairs yourself ya save alot of money,Yes ya have the choice of where to take it, Reguardless of what is said DREWS and I are saying the same thing (just dont think he has gotten it yet ) J/K

I guess the moral is that its your car and your choice, dont let anyone push you into something your not comfortable w/ and good luck

I think I may have some insight on this situation since I work as an estimator for one of the largest insurance companies in the country.

knightfury, what you suggested may be considered insurance fraud, and a good reason why insurance rates are so expensive .

depending on the state in which you live, your insurance company can choose the body shop for you to use to cover damages you are claiming. In California, insurance companies are not allowed to require you to repair at their network repair facilities, its called "steering." but in Arizona, for example, your insurance company has no legal reason to offer you any other repair facility other than their own.

OP, if you have any reason not to trust the estimate that was written by the shop recommended by your insurance company, then take your vehicle somewhere else and show them the estimate. if the shop is trustworthy, they will tell you if the estimate is crap.

if you have an electronic copy of the estimate, PM me and i can give you my email addy and you can send it to me. ill tell you if its crap, i would need some pictures also.

well i got names of body shops that the dealership takes car to. So thats a possibility. for now seeing what that guy will do. I have called insurance company advised them that I'm worried things are not gonna be fixed correctly because the estimate is just bogus. So at least there is something that shows that im already having major issues with them.

Well thats the current status, question being should I call the body shop today to find out status or wait, since he said it would be toward end of this week previously. I dont wanna keep calling so they do their job correctly, but at the same time I wanna call them to find out what the status is and so they know I will keep calling if something is off.

BTW thanks everyone for the advice.
