    WRX/Impreza repair manual?

I picked up a 2002 WRX Wagon with 116,000 miles back in February. Super stoked on the previous owners: 1. pastor from Iowa who drove it for the first 100k, only took it to the dealer for work, 2. mechanic in autotech school for 10k. Needless to say, its lived a fairly pampered life and was well taken car of.

So here's my first two questions:
    1. Haynes doesn't print a manual for the Impreza/WRX. What is the best alternative?

    2. Has anyone encountered a slight and, frankly, random grinding when engaging first gear? The situation is typically at a stoplight or slow, slow roll and there is a quick "buzz" going into gear with the clutch fully engaged. It's only happened a dozen times since I've been driving. It's definitely an issue with the syncros, but my real question is whether anyone else has seen this? My research has led me to conclude that 1st is just finicky and I will need to be careful. Suggestions? Comments? Transmission swap (god no!)?

Thanks in advance and I will now quietly retreat to further perfect my lurking abilities.

The 02 WRX is always hard to get into 1st gear while you are moving. At least on my car I should say. Especially in cold weather. One thing I found that helps is having fresh fluid in the transmission. Use Subaru Extra-S in my opinion. The 02 is supposed to have a weak tranny but mine is still strong and it has about 100k miles on it. You just need to drive it nicely.

You can download a manual off someones website but I found forums offer better how to guides.

You probably have a great car but I am a little worried about the second owner. Auto tech student who owned for about 10k miles. Doesn't sound good to me. Oh well I am sure you had the car properly diagnosed before you bought the car. Hope this helps.
Life is like riding a bicycle in order to keep your balance you must keep moving.

Thanks for the info. Problem with the 1st gear is that it grinds at a dead standstill; the lockout keeps it from engaging until >5mph. Def the syncro's, but I thought I'd see if anyone else has had it.

Does anyone actually produce a manual in print version? I'd rather not have to search through the forums for all my repair needs. It would just be nice to reference the tech docs in one source, at hand, while I'm under the hood.

    None-the-less, thanks.
