Nice, I wish someone loved me that much.

Please treat that vehicle as nicely as your mom has decided to treat you haha.

As for the stereo, go to crutchfield.com and find the link that says "search by vehicle". Type in 04 subaru sti and it will come up with a list of choices that will only fit in that car. I recommend pioneer all the way, its all Ive bought for almost 10 years. Others might say kenwood or alpine. Just check out those results and see what you like best. In my subie I have the pioneer avhp3200dvd and Im happy with it every single day.

    Good luck.

Lucky! Enjoy that thing. And remember traction + awd only does so much.

Looks like the sound system in the cars isn't too much fuss to swap out. I know a lot of people use double (or single) din pioneer or clarion head units. I personally would recommend pioneer, or alpine if you like that interface better.

Install it yourself. It only take once to learn the confidence to do it every time. That and its not hard.

Take it it slow and learn to do any procedure done to your car the most thorough and quality way. Speed comes from repetition.

You probably bought the most DIY learner friendly make of vehicle in the world. There is very little you cant find info on.

I'd be careful about the sound system. There are certain components I'd say DIY. There are probably no components I'd trust best buy over you... They have been known to not be the best at times.

head unit install you can do yourself. Just be careful to get the right wires (acc/+12V can be misleading sometimes).

I'd assume it doesn't have speakers either? I'd go crutchfield method. There is probably wiring left in the car unless the guy was whacked out. Speaker installs you can do yourself easily too.

The most difficult part, in my experience, to do correct is running any form of wiring. If he took his system with him, he might have run some nice sized power wires back if you are looking to run an amp'd system or one with a nice sub.

Might want to look into getting some dynomat or an offbrand to stick on the doors when you get the panels off for the speakers. Will make the doors feel a bit more stable (almost like a luxury type car) and will make the midbass in your car 100% better.
