I would like to say a big hello to every one on here i don’t know if am worrying over northing it a funny noise when i rev my car its like a winding sound not engine more like the alternator car runs ok and goes ok just would like some help
Hello Andy,
The turbo will whistle when spooled. An alternator whine will be present regardless of whether the car is in boost or not, whereas the turbo will make the most notable noises in its range when the car is making boost.

Revving in gear or if the car is in neutral? The WRX transmissions seem to be a little loud as far as noise goes. Even my 2010 is pretty noisy. It could be something normal that you didn't have in your previous vehicle. If it is whining OUT of gear it could be a bigger issue (ones stated above ^^).

It’s not the turbo it’s coming from the pulley you can hear it when you start up and and hear it as it ticks over and when reving
Think its the ac idler pulley I have been looking on youtube its not as bad is http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IXej4...eature=related
Turn off the motor, let the car cool, and remove the belts to examine the pulleys. Replace what's noisy and get new Subaru belts if you do this.
