Hi im looking at getting a 2003 red wrx. i think its a spt edition or something like that. i looked up the carfax and it said it was rear ended when it had only 6000 miles on it but i looked and everything is mint and sturdy back there. besides tat no ther problems were stated on the car fax.
The car and has 122,000 miles on it but it runs mint and everything else about the car is mint and stock.

is there anything i should look out for that the wrx is infamous for?

well i have yet to drive it because im only 17 and they wont let me drive it until im 18 so im goin down tomarrow with my dad to drive it.
i test drove a 2002 wrx before and when i was cruising at about 40 mph i put it in 5th gear, like i do with all 5 speeds ive driven before, and the car started to shake violently.

i didnt know if it was a bad tranny or something with the engine because it was the first i've ever driven. im just wondering what could have caused that. the car had a cai and a cat back and im not sure if it was tuned or not sooo... ya. im just curious as to what caused it to shake like that.

    thanks
    -Andrew

ok so i test drove the car and it pulls and boosts very strong. the check engine light was on though and the car idled a little low and shook at idle.
does anyone know what this could be?

No one has any idea why the CEL is on. Without knowing the code (PXXXX), it could be anything from the gas cap being loose, the TGV motor failing, overboost, etc.

I really hope the car runs better than the one in your avatar!

Anyway, good luck with the sale, hopefully you'll get the car of your dreams. If you really want to be sure you're getting a good car, I'd go datalogging (buy a tactrix cable).

Any auto parts store (Autozone, Pep Boys, etc.) will lend you a code reader you can use to get any CEL codes.

A used car inspection usually runs in the $100-200 range, depending on what all is done to it. I'd make sure compression and leakdown tests are included in that inspection as well.

Like EJ257 said, and auto parts store will lend you one if you have the car there. I took my Honda Accord I recently sold to Checkers last weekend and they lent me a OBD II (2) code reader which read the codes and gave me a description of each. You can also clear the codes and see if they come back after driving for a little while. Best part was, it was free
