any of you wrx owners with the 5 speed have an input here? is it a decent enough trans or is it a terd like im told? ive only ever driven an sti (my buddys 06) and he says that the 5 speeds break like nobodys business.
by no means is it a turd...if you mod it to 400whp and doing drop clutch starts at every light... it will more then likely brake. if you keep your car stock its more then adequate.

thats what i need to know. im thinking of a '09+ wrx premium at this point. i just need to look into the actual functionability of the trunk and things like that. my wife can have the suv, i just need a car that fits two car seats for when i have to pick them up from school, etc.

The 5-speed is not as resilient to abuse as the 6-speed by any stretch of he imagination, but if you're decent to it, it will do just fine. I've driven mine for 87k now with several race weekends and it's perfectly fine.

If you're gentle it'll be great to you, however, almost all of us who have a WRX wish we had an STi, and mainly because of the 6-speed.

I have two kids still in car seats and havent had any issues. Granted I'm not an overly tall person either.

The trunk in the sedan is a little disappointing because it has a rediculous hump just behind the back seats. You will have trouble getting an big stroller in it.

The new Cobalt SS is actually a pretty decent car, aside from being a Chevy that is. I would never, ever own one, but they do perform quite well. I just don't trust a damn thing Chevrolet does in the car department anymore unless it envolves an LSx engine.

I'd take ANY Subaru over any new Chevy car (Corvette excluded of course) any day of the week.

They're tougher than people say... but then again... a lot of the forum consists of teens, and young 20's that A) don't know how to gently drive aggresively, and B) launch from every damned stop light.

Learned to drive stick on mine ('02) and still holding strong after 65k.

Just take her for a test drive in a Subaru. She'll come around! Most girls are put off by the looks of the WRX/STI with that "weird hoodscoop thing" and "giant wing" (STI) and "crazy blue color". But one ride in it and that boost pushes all those silly thoughts out of her mind.

Yes, a Cobalt SS is cheap, but I'd argue the "better on gas" statement. All MPG ratings are fluffed. Do you do mostly highway or city driving? If gas mileage is that important to your family you should be looking at a non-turbo car or something of the hybrid variety.

I think you can win her over here especially when you compare safety ratings, reliability, warranty coverage, and lastingness.

i dont necisarily drive like an a hole anymore, but im hard on gas i have a hard time taking off gently from a stop. im in southeast pa and there isnt much highway(the highways out here are curvy, and hilly)

oh and i want a turbo car because ive never owned one (except my truck) and i feel like considering the pos's ive put up with i deserve a well performing car that i can enjoy w/o having to wish it was something else
i guess i want the glory my old man had when he convinced my mom to let him trade his s10 for the typhoon. its like a right of passage.

i dont launch cars(if you mean dumping clutch) i mostly start to roll and punch it to 60 then let off and roll at it. i do bang second a lot though i dont street race i just love to feel acceleration.

Such a different ended spectrum of choices. AWD Rocket vs. Crotch Rocket. So would go with the AWD. Sooby is my only other love. Aside my girl, and my daughters

my original issue was : '06 '07 sti vs. new wrx premium

    that's not what I mean.

I launch the car at between 9 and 11psi on launch control. Smooth fast clutch slip.
