new guy looking to buy wrx

Hello, my name is JC. i currently drive a 1999 Audi A4 1.8T. its been a fun car modding and driving, but its time for me to change it up. the audi was my first car, and it being AWD and Turbo'd i decided to stay that way on my next car. thats why im looking for a wrx. i know a good amount about cars and what not, but i am always open to learning new stuff about different makes. so basically, this is me intoducing my self, and i guess asking. what should i look for, or know when buying a wrx. im mainly looking for a 2002-2005. i know its 2 different body styles, but i like them both. tia.

The difference between the 02-03 model and 04-05 model is primarily in the body style. They all boast the 2.0L engines however, the 05 model has the interior (dash, console) similar to the 06+ models. 03+ models have thicker gears in the tranny, 02's were notorious for having a "glass tranny"

Better hood scoop compared to what?
If that's the case.. get an 08 and swap out the ECU and turbo with one from an 05+ Legacy 2.5GT and have the same HP #'s as the 09. Gaurantee it will cost you less than getting an 09.

'08 suspension is not as good and the cost of parts and labor for what you're talking about is more than the couple grand you'd save getting an '08, plus the lip kit is only standard on the 08 premium pkg., base model doesnt get it 09 both get models get it.

Good choice. I had an 05 STi and loved it! If you get an 05 and do the VF turbo swap, don't waste your $$$ on a fmic, get yourself the STi or similar top mount. An fmic won't do anything except increase your turbo lag. Not until you get to the larger turbo's would you want to get an FMIC.

List of things you'll need. TBE, VF series turbo, STi injectors, STi TMIC, walbro 255lph fuel pump and a tune. Remember if you do this to your vehicle you have to get a tune, no exceptions.

A good place to start would be to get an aftermarket bellmouth downpipe and a tune. That will hold you over till the swap plus you'll need the downpipe once you do the swap as it is incorporated in the TBE.

It's an easy swap.. cost about a grand used for both. 08 premiums are selling on Ebay for under $16K with very resonable miles. 16+1 +let's say another $500 for a used 09's suspension as we all know there are totaled 09's already out there you are still under $18K which is still lower than you will be paying for a used 09.
(Numbers are if you were to do the install on your own)
Only negative is you will void your warranty.
