You waited until 3,000! jk. I did mine @1,000 but not sure it matters much. I would recommend changing it yourself it is super easy.

Alright so i just hit the magic 3k miles mark on a 09 WRX.
And im ready for the first oil change now i was just wondering on how u guys have been servicing ur new 09's.. are u guys doing the oil changes at home or taking them to the dealers...
ahh and also what kind of oil and filter do u guys recommend ??

I changed my oil at 1000 actually too. I'm just anal about it... (with a change at 3000 also... after that every 3000 until I go synthetic) it's not recommended by subaru or anything so I wouldn't worry about it. I did it at home with pennzoil 10w40 dino oil and purolator one filter. I plan on going to german castrol 0w-30 at 10-15k miles when I get there.
I use Shell Rotella T 5w-40 along with the purolator pure1 oil filter at home. Do a search as I know this has been discussed numerous times.

Proud owner of 99 RS coupe with EJ205 engine and tranny swap.
Easy as hell to do at home, just be sure you have a good drain pan.
I use Mobil 5W30 in winter and 10w30 in summer and a Subaru filter. Changed over to Synthetic at 6,000 miles, doesn't burn a drop 81k later.
