well as you will find out a cat back is largely just a noise maker, you won't see much for performance in them. they will boast hp and so forth but really the cat is still doing its work and they don't do much.

Look into an axle back, if you don't want the full TBE. if you can get the TBE then go for it, you'll see performance increase from that. As fat as exhausts go i personally like SPT and Cobb the most, but there are many good brands.

A cat-back goes from the catalytic converter and back. Now the wrx has 3 cats on it, so i am referring to the rear cat, which is located midway through the entire exhaust pipe.

Axle back is from the axle and back, (which doesn't replace the cat. the rear axle )

the Turbo-Back Exhaust hooks up to the turbo and goes all the way back to the muffler, generally most are catless.

you can replace the cat with high flow cats as well. An Axle back could be something worth looking into if you don't want the TBE, but the TBE is def the best for performance. does that answer your question?

alright, well thats good news. especially if it has 100k+ on it. mods aren't usually a good thing when getting it used. if you get the exhaust then you will want to look into getting it tuned for the new exhaust, that way the engine management knows whats going on. plus you'll have more power, and be at stage 2.
