Is an WRX auto even worth it?

My fiance and I are getting a car. Right now were driving an SUV and she desperately wants a car. We're going to be doing some heavy commuting for at least a year and want to buy something that will fun to drive for me and easy to drive her. The catch was that it has to be auto.

We original decided that a VW GTI would be a good fit but after 2 private deals falling through, just seeing a GTI makes me queasy. The plan was to get her a GTI now, wait 2 years, save up and by myself a manual DD/play car. (most likely a subie)

But after looking over my shoulder while browsing these forums, she says "those look nice why cant we get one of those in automatic"

so , the question is why should we?

What are the up and downs of WRX in auto?

Pro: Easier to drive in frequent stop and go traffic.
Necessary for someone who can't/wont drive a manual.

    Con: Less fun.

    There you have it.

i think its a waste and ppl wouldnt respect u as much. yeah the suby community is very welcoming to all, but come on an auto wrx? yeah im sure it'd still be fun and u dont care who respects u but u may as well get a gti. which i actually like as well.

if you did get the auto rex, u wouldnt kno what it really is to drive the manual (on a daily basis not once or twice) so u wouldnt even kno what ur missing out on really. either way be happy ur wife lets u get a fun car.

Sheesh, he said a manual isn't an option.

If you have to buy an auto then yes, a WRX is still an excellent choice and IMO will be a lot more fun than a GTI. The auto is still AWD after all and you still have all the other stuff.

um who cares about what other people think about YOUR car... and if people dont respect you because you choose to drive an automatic then those people arent worth talking to. get what is best for your situation... if its an auto, so be it. doesnt make you less cool or respected... you still have a well-built, fun car. best of luck to you and your fiancee, you will love the WRX

    This.

However, you may want to reconsider. Since once your fiancee realizes how much fun it is to drive the WRX, you'll never get to! So perhaps you should get a manual so you can have all the fun!

i just dont like the auto ones. many of the ppl i kno personally (like no one on here) would be judgmental immediately simply because someone chose an auto, not that i agree with that or that i even consider hanging out with ppl like that. just sayin. i like the gti's i kno some ppl that have em n i like em, not as much as wrx's tho. again just saying

How shallow are those people. I wonder if they would be judgemental of my cousin cause he drives auto since he only has one leg and isn't able to work a clutch.

My mother in law has an auto WRX, though not as fun as driving a manual it is still a great car and nothing to be ashamed of.

You can always teach your fiance how to drive a manual though. You never know when it will come in handy and is always a good thing to know.

What about a legacy gt for a DD now and then later on , i get myself a manual wrx? hmm...

The only downside this is that my budget peaks at 19k.

I think the Auto WRX's are a blast to drive!
Call me stick stupid I just can't do it.
All my life I've wanted a WRX so I bought an auto WRX and I love her.
I also live where there is a lot of stop and go traffic so a manual for me would be mess.

Test drive an Auto and see what you think. That way you will know for sure.
Legacy GT auto's are also fun to drive my Mom owns one.
