    I finally snagged one!

I looked at several WRXs during my search, and nothing seemed to be working out. Then, when on vacation, I happened upon this one while browsing CarMax's website.

It's a silver 2003 Bugeye, has 46,000 miles, and, in my personal opinion, it looks fantastic.

CarMax has a 5-day money-back guarantee where if, after you purchase it, you decide you don't want it, you can take it back for a full refund. My 5 days are up at midnight, so this thing is mine now whether I like it or not. Don't worry, I like it quite a bit. After driving it around for 5 days, taking it to a mechanic, posting some questions in the car purchasing forum, checking this and that, and having my father look it over, I'm finally comfortable calling it mine.

    Without further ado, pictures:

Congrats! Looks like its in really good condition, and very unmolested!

I just bought an 09, and I loved that feeling a week or so after I bought it when it set in that it was really mine. Enjoy it!

    Congrats.

I have to ask seeing that you bought it from Carmax. How much did you pay for it?

The price of the car was $12,998. After the $149 fee to transfer it from the CarMax in Garland, TX to the CarMax in Oklahoma City, OK, and the $149 "we decided another fee would look nice here" CarMax fee, the total came to about $13,296. That's a about a grand more than KBB.com's Private Party price, and about a grand under their Suggested Retail price. NADA's "Clean Retail" price is $10,750, though I never saw any WRXs with similar mileage for that low around here.

Like I said, I looked at plenty of WRXs in my search, and this one didn't seem unreasonable compared to everything else I looked at. I saw cheaper WRXs with way more miles, and I saw newer WRXs for a lot more.

I'm sure I could have gotten one for cheaper, but my experience with CarMax was exceptional. I'd been to several used car dealerships, and I hated each and every one. They were shady, pushy, and altogether unpleasant. With CarMax, I saw the car I wanted on their website, emailed them a few questions, set up the transfer, test drove the WRX, and that was that. If I wanted it, great. If I didn't, that was fine too.

My wife and I had gone there a few weeks earlier to look at some cars she was interested in. We had a list of about 6 or 7 cars, and the sales rep. let us check out each one as much as we wanted to. When we left without buying anything, he thanked us for coming and gave us his card for when we decided to make a purchase. That was it. No pressure, no sleaze, just respectful, courteous service.

So, I am absolutely certain that I paid a premium for not having to deal with the typical used car dealership bullsh!t. But, over all, I'm satisfied with how things turned out.

Sheesh. She only drove it to church then? My Toyota has about 162k miles on it.

And really, I shouldn't be too hard on it, it's a good little car. It burns a little bit of oil now, and I have to put a bit of power steering fluid in it every couple of weeks, but I could seriously see it getting to 200k if it's treated right. If my WRX blew up tomorrow and I had to find another car cheaply and quickly, I wouldn't think twice about buying an older Toyota.

The WRX, however, is just so much more fun.

Not at the moment, no. I won't be doing any serious modding anytime soon, because:

    a) I'm not a car guy, so I wouldn't know where to start,

    and,

    b) even at stock, it's almost more than I can handle right now, coming from an old Toyota.

About the only thing I'm seriously considering at the moment is getting the windows tinted to the legal limit, and possibly buying some new tires.

Any suggestions for good, cheaper tires? (I'm not really wanting to spend eleventy-billion per tire.)

Yep, there's a pentagram there. Is there an appropriate incantation for this kind of situation?

    look into these
    -->Kumho Ecsta ASX

i dont know a lot about them, but they look good. my friend has them on his rex and he likes them. they have 420 treadwear (very good for performance) and they are all season. they are only like $100. one down side they are likely a harder tire, which is why they last longer.
