They're prone to bad owners so buy one with a full service history and no modifications. There's how-to-buy info in a couple sticky threads for more details. Take your time, they made lots of them and they'll make more so don't rush into buying anything. If there is any doubt, there is no doubt, walk.

    more questions...
looked at it yesterday and it was amazing... its a wrx but the owner has put a sti bodykit on it. no engine mods other than a dual front mount intercooler... the car is almost to hard to pass up but now im worried that there may be something wrong with it because of your "no mods" suggestion. i got the carfax thing and it has been serviced on schedule with no accidents. just wanting a extention on what u ment. did u mean no mods at all or just motor mods. thanks.
it is also a bug eye.

I'll put it to you this way: the entity that is absolutely the best world-wide at building Subarus and building parts for Subarus is... brace for it... Subaru.

Authentic, authorized parts have tremendous resources behind them. I prefer cars with authentic parts. That's just IMO; others here love aftermarket parts - I avoid them.

My statement "no mods" meant "no mods." I have a bugeye also; the list of aftermarket parts on my car is:
    1. OEM radiator fitted but from a different supplier (Koyo, not Calsonic) after two Calsonic OEMs failed.
    2. Goodyear F1 GS-D3 fitted instead of Bridgestone RE-92 originally.
    3. A bright pink (or even pink-orange, very 80s disco style) zip tie used to keep a stock vacuum hose from touching a stock hot surface.
    4. Five hose clamps.
    5. Fluids meet/exceed maker specs but are not OEM supplied.

The car gets authentic parts for service/expendables. I'd have used a black zip tie but did not have one. The hose clamps got replaced when I replaced the radiator.

YMMV. It is possible for you to go out and buy a car with extensive modifications and be very happy with it, while mine may blow up this morning. I'll take my chances... but you have to decide how to take yours.
