    One more thing...

There's going to be a few parts that you buy that are going to eventually end up on your garage, basement, or attic floor. We all do it...

I can tell you right now, that axleback Magnaflow will be one of them.

Look in the for sale forum on this site. You should be able to find a turbo back system in your price range. There are a lot of 'em out there. You get what you pay for, but as long as it mounts up to your turbo properly, and hangs in all the right places, that is really all you need. Haven't heard of any exhaust systems that are built specifically for Subaru that they fall apart or something....some used to have fitment issues, but I'm not sure that is the case anymore.

why hate me. you have a STI too!

    hahaa

anyway.. well heres what i did temporarily. key word "temporarily" until i get money for a exhaust system.

I brought my car to an exhaust shop. What he did was cut the end muffler off and continued the 2.5" piping all the way to the tip and put the tip back on...Basically its straight piped all the way out. Obviously no performance gain here but wow.. it sounds very good!! only charged $25 bucks. at least now i can listen to the amazing sounds of the boxer engine until i have enough money for a real exhaust system that will gain me some HP.

1 more thing. I noticed the first flaw in my car today. And its weird i only noticed it today since I already had the car for 5 days. when down shifting from 5th to 4th going anywhere from 50mph and up it will grind. it ONLY does this when downshifting into 4th. I can nearly redline the engine in 3rd and shift to 4th and it shifts perfectly.... So im guessing its 4th gear synchro right?

Im bringing the car into the Subaru dealer tomorrow and see what they say.

Im worried it might be an expensive fix? anyone have an idea? thanks.

It is likely a synchro. If you rev match while downshifting it will reduce or eliminate the grinding. As far as expense goes, no idea, as I've never had to replace a synchro. Having grown up on manual trans, and learning from a race oriented Dad, I was lucky enough to learn how to treat a manual trans properly. Sounds like the previous owner forced in down into 4th a few times too many.

Well i brought it to subaru dealership today, service tech guy took it for a quick test drive. came back and said its not that bad now but it will probably get worse soon. he recommended i flush the tranny fluid and put new stuff in there. and if that doesnt help. it will need new synchros. he estimated about a 12 hour job to do so and would be about $1000 just in labor....

og believe me i know. I had a 91' Honda CRX that i had alot of money into it. I did all the work on it myself. I could take the engine and tranny out and put back in with my eyes closed nearly. haha.

but im new subaru cars and have no idea how to work on them much. Id rather have a mechanic that knows what hes doing to work on it instead of me. But it really sucks... I dont have the money right now to fix this synchro problem.
