    new from texas

hey, I bought a 2009 subaru wrx black about 2 weeks ago. I was wanting to do some mods to it without voiding the warranty. I read that putting an aftermarket intake and cat back exhaust would not void it. But i would also like to put an aftermarket blow off valve on aswell. I was thinking a perrin bov and exhaust and a k&n air intake. any pointers?

Don't bother with the BOV unless you are going to get it tuned.

As far as an intake, you can just use a K&N drop in filter with the stock air box

You can get the SPT catback for your car also.

You can always follow up with the dealer also. Try searching on this site also cause i know this has been discussed before.

    Congrats on the 09!

    Where in TX?

hi, austin tx. ya i was reading on the bov and alot of people were saying that the stock valve on the car might not let the pressure out and if your on it, in between shifts, the air will go back into the turbo and slow it down or reverse the spin. yea the spt is expensive and i havent herd any with the spt on there so idk how it will sound. i havent seen any 08-09 wrx's around where i live so i havent been able to talk to anyone about it. I had an 01 mustang so this is my first import aswell.

Howdy and welcome to the Club!

No to an aftermarket BOV - the one you have is fine.

His '09s plastic bypass valve actually needs to be replaced sooner than ours do.

when will it need to be replaced? and should i worry about the trubo reversing its spin or slowing down? an intake would increase the sound of the turbo aswell correct?

Meaning it won't hold as much boost as our stock bypass valves. I don't remember what the plastic ones hold, but it was a few PSI less that you can easily get away with on the older metal ones.

I wouldn't be worried about it at this point. You'll be entering warranty denial territory before you need to replace it.

I live near Austin and I have an 09 with SPT exhaust so if you want to hear one PM me sometime. I may even sell mine. As far as the BOV goes I wouldn't touch it or anything else on the engine for 1-2 years, but that's me. For 09 there are other issues to worry about like: what's your build date?

Whats up...dunno if you heard this yet but ill say it anyway, Perrin's BPV is GREAT! I have one on my '05 STi, had it on even before the tune and it ran great, and even though its recirculating it still sounds like a slightly muffled Perrin VTA BOV....I love it, personally.

My date says 09/08. What are the problems with it?
