    Question Newbie

Hi, I'm a noob and I'm gonna buy a Subaru soon. But I wanted to oriented first. I was thinking of buying a WRX but my question is, are they good? How much can they hold with stock internals? Is the tranny good? From what year to what year are they better?

Wide open for debate. What #s are you looking to achieve?

2002 - mid 2003 were somewhat problematic. Starting in late 2003 the transmissions were beefed up to some extent.

Are 2004-05 trannys good? I wanted atleast like from 300 to 350hp. Can it hold that much without modifying the internals? What do I need to do, ECU Reflash, inyectors? Bigger Turbo?

    Thanks

Are you talking CHP, BHP, or WHP?

I hope you understand that 350 whp is approximately twice as much power as it came with stock.

The transmissions on 04+ WRXs, are generally regarded as safe up to 300whp+.

Also, on the 2.0L block... you won't get 350whp safely.

you really need to glance around the forums. We have a completely different car than any other, whether it's turbocharged or not.

A Turboback exhaust, and a Cobb AccessPORT will make you "Stage 2" and it'll haul ass. It'll increase your boost. Anything past that, and you need a tune.

Don't get a Cold Air Intake, Blow Off Valve, Front Mount intercooler, or a Manual or Electronic Boost Controller.

All of these things will make your car perform worse if not tuned for. And the BOV cannot be tuned for. It's bad for your car.

Read all of the FAQs, and Unabomber's Manifesto.

A BOV will cause your shifts to be rich. You can't tune this out. It causes a temporary condition between shifts that causes an excess of fuel to be injected into the cylinder. This can ruin your catalytic converter in a matter of months (VERY Costly!), and cause cylinder wash. Cylinder wash is where the fuel washes the oil off the inside of the cylinder. This gets rid of some of your lubricant, and increases friction in the cylinders, which is obviously a pretty big deal! Also, this causes a hesitation, which in turn actually hurts performance.

What I just said above. 3" Turboback Exhaust, and a Used Cobb AccessPORT

depends on the driver, altitude, barometric pressure, and temperature.
