ok so i'm looking at a 02 wrx with 113xxx on the clock. but anyway i read somewhere that this year had trans problems(like down shifting into 1st and 2nd) but i want to know how many people have had trans problems with their cars. if any. thanks.

that you may find informative. People's experiences vary, so keep that in mind.
Make sure the car you consider has a full service history and that it was maintained with the correct parts at the correct intervals, and do not hesitate to hire a shop to look it over for you.

I've got 137k on my '02. No problems w/ the transmission. I may need a clutch soon, mainly due to agro driving habits though.
It will all depend on how the car was treated and or modded. Take it for a test drive. Good luck.

i drove the car and it was fine. it wouln't let me put it 1st above 5mph. its all stock. he did put some rims on the car but he said he has never had a problem with it.. and he only wants 6,500 for it.
my 02 had its tranny replaced at like 75000 when the previous owner had it and it broke. No problems for me yet.
they do tend to have problems i just got mine and it was rebuilt last last year and is alreeady grinding into 3rd and sometimes 4th if i go hard at it....Planning on taking it apart next week..
I do it entering some tight corners around town, entering parking lots and for compression braking on occasion. Also handy in slow traffic.Why would you downshift into 1st???
To the OP, learn to double clutch and you will be able to drop into first at much higher speeds.

Yeah, think of it this way. If 10,000 owners have visited here and only 100 have reported issues, what are your odds? Then factor that by how reasonably you drive.

i have 116 on the clock right now. trans was rebuilt at 70,000 because the previous owner raced it and beat the **** out of it. however it running great since i got it rebuilt. for the price he is asking for i would find it hard not to take that offer.
