    AWD and Smog

Good Morning everybody... not sure if I'm in the right area,, but a quick search for " AWD Smog " did not yield what I am looking for. Just a simple question, I finally have to get my first smog done on my WRX. I have an 02' WRX with an injen CAI, and a muffler. I have since had 2 turbo's replaced since I purchased the car, my question to you, can I take my car to any Smog place here in San Diego? Or does it have to be AWD specific? Will they just jack the front of the car up?

There are no AWD smog shops that I know of, but my friends are in Norcal. When my friend smogged his Evo they couldn't put it on the dyno, so they did a idle smog check, checked for CELs, and did a visual inspection. I doubt your intake will set off any alarms though if you have a CEL throw the stock intake on and see if that kills it.

    Awesome...

I have a few " errands " to take care off... have been running on a sticker in the window since Nov, my reg is current but need tags... than about 3 weeks ago, I got popp'd coming home from the desert by a CHP, 90 in a 70 ( ouch ). No Insurance... my alcoholic mother stoped paying for my insrance only to to find out when I got pulled over. There for, I'm 99% sure I'm running on a suspended lisc. So, it will be nice to get all of that taken care of today.

So, I think I jinxed my self this morning by posting about my reg. I had to go to El Centro this morning for work... I'm in IT. I Fix Computers. I drove 163 miles one way to el centro, did my dirty work and turned around and drove 161.3 miles home and get pulled over for tags. Just as I was talking earlier about going and getting smog today, so I could get my correct tags. DOH!

That sux. I got a speeding ticket a few months back and got pulled over on the way to pay for the ticket. Luckily the cop was pretty cool about it and gave me a warning.

Got my car out yesterday!!!!!!!!!!!!! $782. Failed smog because of CEL.. I'm assuming it was from my injen CAI which will throw a CEL at 80 mph on the freeway, but always turns off afterwords. Short of going to buy a stock intake setup from subaru tomorrow, not sure what else to do. DMV will only give me a 1 day moving permit.

    Thoughts?

You ordered the stock intake right? That should kill the cel. Do you know what the exact code is? If so post it up just in case it isn't the intake.

I'm going to Subaru when their parts dept open and tell them I want a stock intake. When I called yesterday they told me about the SPT intake, which I believe is short ram. will that possibly kill the CEL? Specifically because its from subaru? WHen I told the girl I wanted the stock intake set up the girl didnt really seem to know what I was talking about. Figure Ill just show up and tell them what I need. Go to Auto Zone and read the CEL code, although the LED is not on " Check Engine " so I don't know what the smog people were smoking.

    Well,,
Smog passed. I got one of the SPT intakes from subaru, drove it back to smog and viola! It passed! So,, just gotta find a way to get to the DMV on monday to get my tags.... I already paid the 207 for the reinstatement..

Going from the injen CAI to the SPT was not that much of a noticible difference. I actually feel like the car runs better. :-)
