    New Subie Owner

Heya folks...looks like an interesting site you have here. That, and it was the first one to pop up in my Google search, so here I am.
Currently, my wife owns a 2002 Forester S Sport Premium, but what brought me here, is I'm on the closing end of buying a 2002 WRX Wagon, in great shape, for $9900 Canadian.
I was wondering if anyone could share their views on what to look for, or any inherent problems with this particular model? There's about a 1.5 inch spot of rust above the wheel well, and that's all I can seem to find. Just wondering if there's something/somewhere else I should be looking

Thanks, and again, nice site! I look forward to participating soon!

PS: Funny, never thought I'd be this excited about buying a wagon! lol!

Welcome to the Subie club! A lot of knowledgeable people on here. And don't think of it as buying a Wagon, think of it as buying a Sports car that you can use every day! lol.

Oh, I concur, 100%. I see it more as a hatchback, which I prefer. I just find them more convenient, especially with two dogs. Now combine that with a WRX engine, and I'm a happy camper.
Lookin forward to it! And thanks for the "welcome".

    Welcome to the club.

As far as things to be aware of or look for:
    * Has it been properly maintained? If not you may need to do some catch up work. Look to the owner's manual for the particulars. If it no longer has a manual, you can get a new one from Subaru.

    * It is not uncommon to get a gas smell in the cabin on cold mornings. Not very harmful but if you have this I believe there was a TSB on it. Search under "gas smell" or "fuel smell" ad it should be in there somewhere. I'd give you link but I'm on the PDA right now so it's a little tough.

    * If you hear some mild ticking from the engine, do not be too alarmed. It's normal.

I would as recommend exploring the links in my signature. Good luck!

Thanks for the heads up, TheJ.

I know the "Subaru Tick" all too well. I think every Subie I've owned, thus far, has had it.

With regards to the engine, it's hasn't been "babied" like most self respecting WRX owners would do, so I have a little catch up to do. I have a little experience with the H4 engine (alternators, oil pressure sensors, head gasket changing, etc), so I'm not afraid to do some catch up work. Lookin forward to it, actually. The one thing I really suck at (hate) is body work, so a rust proofing is going to be item number 1, on my list, I think. Since that was usually the main reason I got rid of my other Subaru's.
I'll peruse your links, and see what I can see.

    Thanks again...
