    Hello everyone

id like to say hello to all Subaru enthsiasts, my names Jason, new to the site, and new to the subaru world. will be purchasing a 03 wrx very soon, and im trying to gather as much information as i can about it so ill have an idea what im getting myself into. this specific wrx im trying to get has 88k miles on it, and i believe the dealership that has it is letting it go for about $11k. Are there any reliability or maintenance issues that should be brought to my attention? also, ive been browsing around a bit and the wrx transmission is talked about like its made out of plastic, lol. what is stock hp for the wrx and what can the tranny handle before the drivetrain needs upgrades? im also going to try to get in touch with the previous owner to see how he took care of the car. Any input or help is greatly appreciated. thanks everyone, and nice to meet you all.

    Plastic Tranny

The weak link is the third gear sycro. Bad by design. FYI- you can pick up the 02/03 at auto auctions for about $6,000. You will not know the history or have a dealer to stand behind it, but you can use the money saved for a $1500 STI gearset. Just a thought!

The trans does have thinner gears than current models, however when driven correctly it WILL hold up fine. When beat on then yes it will break.

Also in my opinion I'd be a fool to buy a car with 88k miles on it for 11k. Sure they are reliable, but thats alot of money for a car with that many miles...

    Id keep searching.
