Newbie here - scared of the forum

I've lurked here off and on for awhile, but have been smart enough to stay away until now. I'm afraid of upgrade-itus. Unfortunately, I made a first post and now a second. Oh boy.

2001 WRX - bone stock. Paid for, 48K miles, had the AC serviced once and ZERO problems/work outside of regular maintenance.

Do I stay or run away now?

Too late. The very fact that you were lurking shows that you're unable to hide your mod-curiousity.

So welcome to the Club! And watch out for those stickies.

I guess all hopes of "no no, don't mod" are lost here, huh?

I promise not to ask the same questions, been reading through old posts for awhile.

My main issue is that I'm no wrench. I know a couple of things I'd like to do, but refuse to price them out. Once I do that, I'm sunk.

I'm slow to act, but at the point of choosing between something new or putting a little coin in this to squeeze out 30ish more ponies. If I do that, I can just bank the rest of what I have set aside for a down-payment and frankly, that's looking like my choice so far.

Yep, got a buddy who can run that for me. That plus UP would be the first thing.

Still, considering some of the (albeit rare) issues people have had with the DIY, I'm still a bit hesitant. I'm still kicking around the idea of finding a shop to do it.

OK, I have to stop this. I knew I shouldn't have started posting.

If you are worried about the wrenching don't be. There are alot of faqs on this site that are a great help. If you are that worried about ask a buddy for help. Once you throw a couple parts on yourself you get a real since of accomplishment and with each mod you gain confidence.
