    I do not believe your understanding to be the most correct. When the #1 cylinder piston at the top of its stroke just after the compression stroke , it is called Top Dead Center or simply TDC. Although it may actually be "at" top dead center, the "at" is not included when referring to this in abbreviated form.

    BTDC = Before Top Dead Center.

    TDC = Top Dead Center.

    ATDC = After Top Dead Center.
