    Brand new WRXXX owner

Finally I got a real car!
I've been driving a 94 POS (I cannot stress the POS part enough) pontiac grand prix for 7 yrs until a month ago, when I finally purchased my 02 impreza wrx sport wagon!
The wagon is in great shape a one (old person) owner car stored in the winter with no mods and a brand new clutch. I love drivin this car from the rumble of the engine to the hissing of the turbo I can't seem to drive it enough plus playin in the snow is sometimes a must, but not to much of course!

So far I've put a few mods on it, not knowing much about the car though I asked a friend of mine when I was at my base who has the same vehicle (and did some research of my own) He pretty much told me everything I've been reading on here, No BOV, No cold air,etc....

So the only things I've done so far are:
    K&N air box filter
Perrin radiator hose kit (OEM was leaking)
    STI sway bars frt+bck

Things that will be done soon are:
Header w/thermo coating and heat wrap
    Boost gauge w/single pillar pod
    JBL power series speakers

Things to come in the future, when the funds present themselves of course:
    Cobbs stage 2 ecu programmer
Downpipe /High-flow cat converter and HKS HI power cat back exhaust

Thats all thats on the agenda so far. I did have a few questions though

I'll be replacing the manifold in a few days w/ the insulated header and upipe combo, am I going to have any problems such a check engine light coming on or any other issues for that matter?

I'll also be doing my first oil change soon what type of oil should I use I know its 10w-30 but what brand? and synthetic or reg?

The under driven lightweight pulleys are they any good or is it all hype? I heard they throw off the harmonic balance and I don't like the idea of underdriving.

And are there any other issues I should be concerned with or any advice a seasoned wrx owner can give me?

Thanks for all the answer and help I'll soon be getting!
Now I gotta go find a vacant parking lot it's snowing again.

Skip the header for now (you'll need a Protune for this, which will cost you $300-400) - save the $$ for StageII, and when you decide to get the headers put on, you can get the Protune for StageII/Headers

TheJ put together a nice set of FAQ that you should probably take a look at.

So if I put the headers on now it would run like crap with out the protune?

The stage II will take care of this prob when I get it?

Damn that sucks I wanted her to purr louder!

StageI/II doesn't take into account aftermarket headers.

As I said, if you want headers, wait until you can get a Protune, or find an OTS map that accounts for headers.

get a downpipe, and select your catback. The catback is what makes the noise for the most part. Just get a turboback and flash to stage 2. You'll see more than a header upgrade, and roughly the same cost. Make sure you do get an uppipe though.
