Hey guys, just purchased an 02' WRX sport wagon. Manual transmission, 100k miles, for $9000. Great condition, a few scratches/minor imperfections but its a beauty and drives great--real happy and proud of my purchase.

    Some questions on minor maintenance:

1)Does anyone else experience wind noise at speeds above 40-50mph from the driver and passenger windows? The driver's side is fixed by putting the window down and back up (seems like it doesn't seal when you just shut the door), but the passengers doesn't. Has anyone else experienced this, and what did you do to fix it? I'll examine the seals, but supposing there were a hole or two--any recommendations?

2)The driver's side door shuts perfectly, locks ok/won't open, it's all good, BUT the door sensor that senses whether it is shut or not isn't detecting it correctly. If you put pressure on the door or the cars weight is shifted left, it flickers on as if the door is not shut. Again, no safety concerns, the doors shuts tight--where would I begin to check for the sensor, and how easy of a fix is it? This also affects the interior light, which obviously stays on if the doors are not all shut.

I think that's it. There is some slight shudder when I brake hard at high speeds (which doesn't happen often) so I'm going to examine the pads, but everything else is tip top. Carfax buyback guaranteed, one owner, I checked out the engine, no leaks. Very satisfied with this purchase, looking forward to working on my new baby. Thanks for the help!

    1. seals break down/get hard over time, perhaps not much $ to replace them, don't rightly know.

    2. may need to realign door. was it in an accident? did you get a carfax before purchase?

brake shudder is usually from rotors (warping, glazing). you can sometimes have them machined depending on the runout.

Like I said, car was/is carfax certified, no problems whatsoever. The door shuts fine, is flush and everything. Hm. I'd like to fix it myself if its something as simple a sensor in the wrong place or the wiring. Thanks.

    Welcome to the club!

The sensor sounds like it shouldn't be too hard to replace but I haven't had the pleasure. Whatever you do let us know how it goes.

The fact that we don't have pillars is the reason for the noise. To remedy this, just roll down the window a crack and then put it back up.

The little black nipply thing in the door sill is the sensor. Swirl it around with two fingers for about 10 seconds. Makes the car feel good.

Thanks for the help guys, I'll let you know how it goes. After searching around, sounds like the wind noise is common for WRXs and pillarless windows. No worries.

**** yeah man! Glad to see some Indy love here. Probably the only decal I'll put on my car is a little blue horseshoe in the rear window.

Greetings and welcome to the club!

Subaru redesigned the doors with pillars for the 2008 to address the inevitable issue we all have. On a 2002 it would be that much more noticeable.
