I too apologize for the 'jack ...

From day one I have used a garden hose and Simple Green about every two to three months. Have been doing this with my cars for about 20 years with no elelctrical / water issues.

... and now back to the new to site thread.

lol now thats a clean engine bay. i really need to clean it. though it doesnt look it, its pretty dirty (well at least to me).

im always too nervous to take a hose to the engine. i know theres nothing wrong with doing so, i just feel like im going to wet something and then be really mad i did so lol.

I might be a bit concerned with more aftermarket bits as well. I had one minor issue with an '87 Ford Escort I had - a bit of water got inside the distributor cap. It had a capped vent with a small hole.

The car was drivable; all I had to do was shoot the insides with some CRC 5-56 (WD40 type stuff) and all was OK again. From that point on I was more careful around the distributor.

what are all of the things you cover when you spray down your engine? i know the obv ones...alternator, intake, battery etc. i never really have seen what people exactly cover.

Nice car. lotta work and impressive numbers. you oughta look into the carbon fiber roof panel. do a search for it. i saw it in here somewhere and the guy just used some adhesive and you lay it ontop of your roof. i liked it. really completed the carbon fiber all the way down the middle of the car.

I cover nothing. Really. Never have. Six different cars, with the Escort being the only (minor) problem I ever had. I had two of those cars for 100k+ miles.

I suppose if I had an exposed air filter I would but a bag over that.

Oh - only clean a cold or slightly warm engine. I have done it on a hot engine with no apparent ill effects but have not done so in many years.

Two more pointers and I promise to stop:

I always take the car out for a drive to fully warm the engine bay to dry it out.

I do not wash if the temps will fall significantly below freezing overnight.

ive actually seen that. the only thing i dont like about it is you have to pretty much glue it down to the roof...just in case i wanted to ever take it off that would be a bad site. you have pics of the persons car by any chance? was it on a silver STi?

04.SPT.WRX - you are a brave man lol. id be wayyyy to worried to just start hosin' down. my intake filter is in my wheel well so i wouldnt have to worry about that. id probably just end up covering the battery and alternator.
