    Hey, nice to meet y'all.

Hey, I just got a 2004 sport wagon... it is nice! I've got some questions about things I want to do, I've been lurking for a bit so hopefully I would have noticed if they were answered but I suppose I may have missed some.

    1) Is a remote starter bad for my engine/turbo in any way? I plan to do the clutch-always-in-for-start mod and park in neutral, obviously, so I'm sure that won't affect me, but one of my friends mentioned it could be bad for the turbo for some reason, but wouldn't elaborate.

    2) I plan to also solder my iPod power adapter in and hook it under the plastic into the armrest. Is that tough to do, as in, should I wait until I'm putting my short throw and bushings in to do it?

    3) Any recommendations for radar detectors? I've looked at the posts for hardwiring them and that looks fine, but I know nothing about them, so any idea of what is good would be sweet to have.

    Thanks a lot, guys!

Congrats on the purchase and welcome to the club
I'm not sure about the remote start being damaging, I don't see why it would be. There is a write up on either nasioc or scoobymods on how to hard wire the ipod into your cassette player. I can't find it at the moment, but it looks like if you know how to solder, you should be fine. As far as radars go I would recomend the Valentine one, or the Passport X50. Many of my friends have the x50 and arevery pleased with its performance.

Sweet, thanks for the reply. I was mainly thinking of the problems getting plastic covers on and off as fas as the iPod thing goes, but I guess that's not too bad? It's probably just that I'm the guy who goes from not hard enough to too hard like immediately when pulling on them.

They say basically the only difference on the 8500 is the range increases... any idea by how much?

    Sheeley,

Are you FROM Sarasota Springs? Because no one I know that lives anywhere north of Virginia that would say or type "y'all"...unless they were born/raised in the South and moved up there. That is a Southern term.
    Congratulations on your purchase though.

Congrats on the car. I use the Beltronics RX-65 and it works very well. I believe it is pretty much the Passport in a different housing. The range is very impressive I have gotten some from over 3 miles.

Welcome! It is not hard on the plastic to get it on and off to install things. All tabs and screws are pretty durable. The turbo has water, oil lines going to it, so you won't cook a turbo by remote starting it and letting it warm up. For the same reason, our cars do not need a turbo timer to cool it off like some other turbo cars.

    and welcome to The Club!!!!

Since you already seem to have the modding itch (hey, it may just be a radar detector and ipod hook-up, but I can tell! ), here are some links I suggest you check out or keep for referencing:
    The "Good first mods" sticky
And here's great coverage of FAQs from NASIOC.

Oh and post up some pics of your suberiffic wagon!

It's not just an ipod and radar detector! :P I'm going to get an accessport and short throw asap... not too sure about other stuff, though. It's more of a car to get me to the slopes than something I need to race ricers in

    Ahh, gotcha.

But the mods links I posted aren't just good if you're looking to race, there's also great mod paths to follow if you're just looking for:
*More power but still want to keep it a daily driver
*Better suspension if you live in a mountainous area or just seek better handling
*Better braking for more torrential weather conditions.
*Just all around great mods to maximize the power/handling/performance out of your car to suit your needs
*And most importantly, what NOT to do to your car!
