Thinking about buying an 04 rex...

Hi guys, the name is Adam, i need your opinions on this WRX i'm looking at. It's a used 04 with the premium package; heated seats, sunroof, ect.

Well it has 36k miles on it, a good amount of mods. Now i don't have full details, only what the guys at the dealer told me. They claim it hasn't been beat on but yea i'm not buyin that. I drove it, it runs good or so it seems, no gauges or anything, so i don't exactly know what's going on with the A/F ratio and such. BUT here's a mod list of my limited knowledge... They say it has a larger turbo, tho they didn't mention what turbo, it has an Injen SRI, the STI intercooler, and that's about all i got. It also has an exhaust on it, but the previous owner is taking it off and putting it on his brand new STI. It might have a few other mods but i don't have a complete list. the asking price if they remove all the mods is $19,900, and then $1500 for all the mods on it.

As for cosmetics, they hadn't detailed it yet cuz they JUST got it in, but it has some pretty nasty scrapes at the bottom of the front bumper from, most likely, driveways. It has a small not very noticable dent on the passenger side door as if someone opened their door into it. Maybe one or 2 peice of chipped paint on the driverside front fender. On the inside there is a slight smell of smoke, but like i said it hadn't been detailed or cleaned yet, i'm hoping they can get the smell out, also the floor mats are stained.

I did some searching on here the other day tho and read about that cabin filter mod with the dryer sheets and such :-P so i'll definately be doing that regardless of if they can get the smell out or not.

The car drove nicely, and the sounds it made were beautiful :-D I forgot about all the other things that were wrong with it once i got on the gas heh heh... Turbo spooling... exhaust roaring... then the "psssshht" of the BOV heh heh

I want the car pretty badly but you guys have more experience with these cars, so i'm hoping to get a honest answer from yall rather than what's going on in my mind, which definately isn't logical thinking ATM cuz i've got speed on my mind right now :-D

Also i'll be purchasing the 4 year 48k mile warranty with it. ($1600).

Personally, I would pass on it.

It has lots of mods, including a larger turbo and no guages? That is a serious concern. You absolutely need gauges with those mods. I wouldn't touch it with a 10 foot pole.

I know this seems like a really great deal but it is also an '04 with lots of miles on it. Keep searching.

Twisty Monster - 335 ft/lb of torque @ 3600 rpm on a stock turbo. Is that possible? Yes it is.
