Well, after lurking here I finally decided to join. I've been a WRX fan for a long time and a WRC fan for longer. After a long spell without a performance car of any kind I've decided to start looking for a WRX. I'm hoping to score the 04 STi the local Subaru dealer has had on their lot for over a year really really cheap. They move quite a few Foresters and Legacys, but that poor STi has just been sitting there...
Unfortunately I made the mistake of driving it.
Anyhow, a bit about me...
I'm an old fart; over 40. I'm married with 2 kids. Some of my hobbies are building computers, guitars, and cars (as well as using them). I've owned my share of hot cars. I've had a 69 GTO Judge, a 70 Mustang 428 SCJ Drag Pack, a 70 Firebird Formula 455, and a 76 Pontiac Sunbird with a built V6 that used to regularly off the 5.0 Mustangs of the 80's. And a few others. After 10+ years of "family" cars and Jeeps, I'm ready for something a bit more exciting. Plus, my oldest will be getting her license about the time I'm done paying this one off, so I'll probably teach her to drive it.
My preference would be to buy a 00 or 01 Impreza RS coupe and a totaled STi, do a drivetrain and interior swap, add the Bugeye front end, and drive a sleeper, but I don't have the garage space for a project of this magnitude. If I did, I'd be working on my V8 Sunbird resto instead. So I guess I'll get a WRX or STi and mod from there.
Hi to the new guy.
I am 43 ... we need more ... uh ... experienced members here. Welcome!![]()
Damn nice of you to help that poor STi out and give it a loving home maybe.![]()
Well you made the right choice. WRX's and STi's are great cars. You wont be dissapointed. Might be a little much for a first time driver to drive a modded STi but hey what do I know.
Welcome, I'm pretty new here myself. Good taste in cars, and you defintely wont be dissapointed if you purchase the STi or WRX, I've had mine for a few months and couldnt be more proud of it. Great car, good luck.
Welcome!
It's all about the mountain twisties, biyotch~

Ok...
being a pony-car guy who went WRX (2002) due to necesity, ( I still love my WRX), and am now back in the HP game (05 Mustang GT)... you will find that the experience is very different with the WRX... don't expect any torque... especially in the low-end... no more burning the rubber matching speed with local traffic... it is lovely though after 3000 rpm... and the handling is superb....
Thanks, everybody.
Welcome!!! Buy that sti!! Go on, you know you want to!![]()
