Hi, I'm looking at buying a used WRX, and I have heard that the turbo needs to be replaced every 30,000 miles or so and that costs about $1,000.
I'm searching everywhere to see if that is true, and I can't find anything remotely close in terms of validifying that statement.
Is there some basic turbo maintenance that is more expensive than normal maintenance? Or did I just simply get misinformed?
Thanks,
Rodimus

the turbo was made to last the life of the car if untouched . by untouched i mean boost was not turned up alot.
do you know if the car was modded at all. if it was not, you should be good

The car was not modified at all.
The owner is 65 years old and just got an Audi, so he's selling his car.
The guy who told me about the torbos burning out does deal with friends who race (and probably mod their turbo) all the time, so maybe that's what he was talking about.
I'm not planning on making any changes to it.
Right on.
By the way, sweet Elisha Cuthbert photos!
