if you want 01+ then a Mustang
if you want to go earlier, get a mid 80's 911 SC.

you can also get a late 70's Ferarri 308 GTS (Magnum P.I., baby) for about $15k.

Is that a fact? A mazda B somethin truck is the exact same thing as a ranger minus badging. I have read on multiple places that they have combined. I know that Ford did not buy them out but they are parters. Like Chevrolet and Toyota. Prizm and Corrolla are the same cars just different badging.

How about an 00-01 Legacy. Its luxury and a decent amount of power. They do have power don't they?

not quite. they do share a lot of stuff. i cant speak for the trucks, but for example the focus and the mazda3 both share the duretec 2.3l but no parts are interchangable. if they were in that much cahoots the same size engines would at least be reused, imo.

some of the older proteges could swap some parts with ford escorts, and the mx6/probe had very similar motors and could swap some parts i think, and so on...but for the most part, no.

I was referring to your qoute about drifting the shopping cart, I do that too. And it took me a while to figure out that rents means parents, unless it doesnt.

Decent 308's are in the mid to upper 20's now. Any late 70's Ferrari 308 going for less than $20K is probably a moneypit that someone can't afford to fix properly. But like a Harley, Ferrari owners don't cry as much as you'd think as they sink money into them. I've always liked the 308/328 series. Those gorgeous little cars never seem to age - but they ain't cheap to own.

Hey, what about a 2.5 RS? Decent car. Affordable. Good parts availability.

Show your parents this and ask them if they really love you - guilt always works :

March 2005 Consumer Reports, April auto issue: Subaru is top manufacturer in the US with fewest repairs per new car; WRX, STi Top Pick in the 'Fun To Drive' category, Impreza is a 'Recommended Buy'.

do you know about the MSP?

here are common problems with the msp, stock without touching anything (and a number indicating on a scale 1-10 how often out of ten this might occur):

    - broken differentials 2
    - blown motors 2-4 (some stories you know are bs and people are beating)
    - clunk 9 (your suspension makes the most hideous clunking noise)
    - pieces of the car falling off 5 (god knows what mazda used to put the stuff on, but the stuff comes off)
    - radio and or sub taking a **** 7
    - hesitation 9 (you can have the dealer flash the car, whereby you will run into serious advance timing because mazda put a bandaid on the problem rather than fix it, so if you mod it, youre ****ed)
    - random coolant leaks 5
    - randomly braking intercooler pipe 6
    - pieces of airbox duct falls off 4
    - exhaust falls apart (welds, etc) 4
    - vacuum leaks caused by brittle hoses 3
    - front suspension squeek 8
    - stock alarm goes off randomly or wont let the car start 5

not to mention the MSP only comes in a standard tranny and his dad said auto only. also dont forget this is a 1 year production run, with 03, 03.5, and 03.7 models but the dealer has to be a mazdaspeed certified dealer (kinda rare) to work on them, IF they will warranty work, which is TWENTY BAGILLIONS times worse than subaru america.

Call me crazy but here is my novel idea. Take the 8 grand that your dad is offering and go buy yourself a honda hatch (if he wants to lug crap). Keep the car stock and dont do anything to it (If you want to go knewer just get a EX or something nice). This will provide you with a good running reliable car that is easy to maintain and very good on gas.

After he buys you this car, be happy. Then go and get yourself a job (and no I dont care if your in college full time or not) and save for your own nice car. There is no reason why someone should be upset and even asking for any other car then what your parents are giving you.
0-60 faster then your first sexual experience.
