Newbie Q: Differences between RS and WRX

Like the heading says, what are the aesthetic differences between the RS and WRX models? I am buying used and am paranoid about mixing the two up.

    Thanks.

the wrx has a hood scoop, rs doesnt, the RS has a single tip exhaust, stock wrx's have a dual tip... the wrx is obviously turbo'd and the rs is not...interior is very similar.. oh and the wrx is much faster

    The hoodscoop. The turbo.....The badging....

Trust me you won't mix them up, that's almost impossible.

HAHAHAHAH!!! One has a turbo and one doesn't? Man, that's a BIG difference when checking under the hood...see what happens when you only read about WRXs and STIs?

    Thanks guys.

Well, only got to check out one used 2004 WRX today...all the other dealers seem to be out of 'em at the moment--good thing, it delays my purchase date and allows me to save more $ and rethink my strategies.

I checked out a 2004 WRX (silver) with 29,000 miles for $17,995. It's the lowest one out there but the dealer is a warehouse (i.e. NOT a subaru dealer). There are two minor dings on the hood and some scrapes on the very bottom of the front bumper (only noticeable when you get down on yer hands and knees--don't look like lowered car marks, more like parked over the curb a little too close). Other details:

Factory Warranty (dealer wasn't sure; I'd have to check with Subaru with the VIN)
    Free Carfax
No maintenance/service records from owner; I'd have to check with Subaru
Possible 30-day return policy (I'd get it in writing)
    Independent Mechanic check is allowed

What do ya'll think? (Mods if this has turned to a purchasing thread, please transfer)

Silly question: is the cup holder supposed to "spring out" when pushed? It barely moved out when I pushed it and had to be pulled by hand.

Cup holder springs out about one inch when pushed then pulled by hand.

Only other thing I can think of is to request a compression test when you have it looked at by a mechanic. That alone will tell loads about how the vehicle was treated.
