I'm sure this doesn't happenmuch, but when a dealer details your car when you buy it, they use acid based cleaners on the rims which aren't bad at all, as long as you remember to spray the cleaner off. These guys didn't so the brake dust eventually works its way under the clearcoat that gets softened, and once the clearcoat hardens the brake dust is part of your "new paint job", and you get that tiger stripe design if anyone has seen it.

Re: place to fix ruined rims?

    www.awrswheelrepair.com

Alloy Wheel Repair Specialists....I ran into them at SEMA the first year I went and they have branches all over the country (looks like a handful in CT). Each branch is a franchise I think, but same equipment, paint, technology, etc., but my local franchise did a smoking good job on two of my vehicles and a full restore on my buddy's car.

Mine were somewhat minor curb rash repairs on BMW 335 wheels, but I was truly blown away and I am super anal retentive. My buddy had his M3 wheels completely redone and it is like a new car now. Amazing job and $75/wheel is awful hard to beat.

    Good luck....
