New STI will have "quad tip exhausts." So dual exhausts that each are twin tip.
In addition, the STI sounds so good stock that SPT isn't developing an exhaust for it.
I was wondering about this. All pics of the WRX hatch that I've seen were showing a single exhaust, with the sedan having the dual.

I'm eager to see the real deal for the STI.

the dual thing is odd since I read somewhere that they couldnt do the dual exhausts because of the suspension in the wagons.

i will try to find where i read it though.

EDIT: Found it in SubieSPORT, page 15.

unable to put dual exhaust outlets on the hatchback version, due to clearance issues with the suspension. Sedan does not have this limitation so you'll find it has the tougher-looking dual pipes.

did they find a way around this and only use it for the STI? if so, I see a lot of 2008 hatchback WRX's having rear bumpers and exhausts changed after the customers get them.

agreed. the LGT exhaust is quite expensive to upgrade compared to our WRX ones in most cases.

good question. i dont think they would really be able to yet. SOA will probably open a pre-sold order program at some point as they did with the 2008 WRX models (i think we had 6 pre-sold orders here).

when they do is anyone's guess, but figure probably 90-120 days from when they expect to release them.

they claim January for STI to hit dealers....they are usually 30 days off so figure probably February for most dealers to get them.

the dealer might take your money now just to secure you from shopping them, but nothing is available thru SOA yet as a pre-order program so it would be a dealership type of thing, nothing official.

Agreed. The magazines all say that the Sedan has dual since its longer and then Hatch has a single exhaust because it is perpendicular to the rest of the car.

However, SPT guy said differently. Now, how could they do it?

3 options that I can think of:

The stock mufflers look like mailboxes and yet aftermarket ones are always smaller in size so maybe they made the mufflers smaller and can fit two?

Look at the mini coopers exhaust, they are very small and can fit 2.

Look at the 350Z it has dual exhausts from One muffler

I am an employee of the company, so I dont think they'd worry about me shopping. Thanks for the info Seth!

I like the looks of the Dual, but just to make a more "what the" appearance I might do a single tee hee

Doesn't it seem that a month or two into 2008 is a little late in getting a 2008 to market? Especially seeing I bought my original 2002 WRX sedan in May of 2001
