    2015 Impreza (std car)

Subaru has a microsite for the 2015 Impreza, and it appears they've brought some badly-needed updates to their budget car:
    • Revised Fascia
    • Standard "StarLink" Infotainment system
    • Standard reverse camera
    • Upmarket interior options
    • Quieter cabin
    • Improved fuel economy, up to 37mpg on the hwy
    • EyeSight is now an option

Press Release: 2015 SUBARU IMPREZA® GETS NEW LOOK, NEW REFINEMENTS AND NOW OFFERS EYESIGHT® DRIVER ASSIST TECHNOLOGY

These new features ought to bring the Impreza more in line with their competition from the Mazda3, Corolla, and the like, all of which offer extensive tech options these days.

One interesting feature on Eyesight-equipped cars is selective fog light control, which will automatically turn on the foglight in the direction of a turn for better illumination around the corner. I guess that's a cheap alternative to servo-actuated cornering lights.

You do have to give it to Subaru, redesigning all models in a 2 year period.
The local dealer I go to is always selling cars, and a mixed bag WRX,STI, Foreseter, Xv cross trek.
And it seems that they are finally trying to catch up to the competition, technology wise.
The eyesight, reverse cameras and increased fuel economy. I have said for a while that thet need one upscaled super high powered, top of the line car. And in my opinion they should do it to the STI. Upgraded electronics, better fuel economy, and more power. Subaru should make it there higher end car. A vehicle to challenge the German engineering status quote. But from the rumors I've heard, they may dump the STI altogether.

The wrx is a better car now (on paper fuel efficiency and power wise)
it also wouldn't make sense to have two cars compete against eachother

An upgraded STI won't be in competition with the WRX, it would be the top tier car in Subarus lineup.
    Look at BMW there's a 5 series, and then there's an M5. A 3 series then a M3.

That's true but the price range for subarus...

A good example would be the WRX concept car.
Subaru could build it, make it high end then call it the STI.
Then the Imprexa, Wrx,STI would all be different cars.
They would all have different options and trims and pricing.
If the concept WRX came out next year( or in the next couple years)as the STI, I'm sure it would be a very coveted car.

The Legacy Spec B was probably the closest Subaru has come to a Luxury flagship. It was intended to join the ranks of the BMW 3-series and Audi A4, but ask anyone to name a luxury sport sedan, and Subaru will be the last one on their mind, although the Spec B was apparently quite good.

Subaru doesn't need to move upmarket. They basically created the CUV segment before it took off, so their years Outback and Forester development long before any of their competitors entered the market is paying dividends now.

Furthermore, Subaru is still a "small" family-owned company. Fuji Heavy Industries is just that: heavy, utilitarian equipment. In Japan, they make airplanes, agricultural equipment, generators etc. For Subaru to announce a Bahn-burning luxo-Q-ship would be like John Deere announcing their entry into Formula 1.
