He's talking about the 2015s. I ordered a 2014 hatch. It's on it's way. 2015 is the only one in question. It's all here say until an official announcement is made. Like everyone else says.

Ooh,hang on. That is the throb of a turbocharged flat four engine. A sound which, all over the world, heralds the imminent arrival of a moron - JC.

Since no further Group N or A cars will be homologated and Group R4 is going to be phased out, of what possible use would a 2,0l motor be for homologation?

(Although I may be beating a dead horse -- the thread is entirely lacking in info after all -- I find this homologation question more interesting than my initial question: "Why would a manufacturer reveal anything whatsoever of any importance to some employee at a random dealership in a different country?")

The only useful fact that this thread has brought to light -- though not revealed; it's a known issue -- is that Subaru lack a good 1,6l turbo motor. Their previous 1,6l turbos were actually dealer packages but even so the 1,6l Imprezas were, well, boring. Granted they don't need to homologate a 1,6l to compete but small is better. I want to see them do much more with a lot less. They could consider innovating I suppose.

Oh, and they can paint the cars in earnest maybe.

    Do a search for "VarioCam."

The Germans developed it initially but Subaru have also licensed a version for their engines (incidentally, Subaru incorrectly refer to their motors as an "H" motor; this is something between laughable and disgusting to me but I have to mention it since the Subaru motor I'm about to list is named wrong by Subaru...) in the H6 series at the turn of the century. I don't know where else Subaru has used the VarioCam design, and I don't care where the Porsche version is used.

I don't know if the turbo Impreza VVT system is related to the ex-German system. I do know that valve timing change vs. RPM and load is one difference between ECU setups for various local-market Subaru cars, by talking to a few AU owners.

However, it is possible and it does exist.

AVCS is Subarus implementation of VVT

You know, I like VTEC. My Honda motor is excellent; it makes more power and uses less fuel than my turbo Subaru sans VVT, and it's used to move a much larger vehicle yet still needs less fuel. I'm impressed.

The only people I've run across that don't like VTEC are Honda V4 engine owners. For some reason they don't like what it did to the torque curve of their V4. Never experienced what they're complaining about first hand though.

So is AVCS a VarioCam derivative, do you know by chance?

EDIT: I found this in a Wiki page:

A system similar to the VarioCam Plus system was developed by Porsche for Subaru for the redesigned EZ30R H6 [SIC! - SD_GR] engine which debuted in 2003 in the Legacy and Outback.

This doens't quite answer it though since I think the EJ207 had AVCS and it predated the EZ30R?
