Could be, but I think there's a slight drop to it, maybe 1"?

Yeah, I've been using the 2014 STI as a model to view and help pick out rims. I'm still a ways off from zeroing in on a set, but they're coming.

Grats dude and good luck! I'm guessing the talk with the Ms. finally went through with a positive message received?

That is Race Comp Engineering's WRX so they know what they are doing with suspension/wheel, tire mods

The setup is 18x9.5 +35 RPF1s with 265/35/18 Michelin Pilot SuperSports and RCE Tarmac 2s with Swift 400lb Springs front and rear.

It is a serious setup and exactly how I would want mine to look if I had one. Except I'd switch the wheels to NT03s.

But honestly, even if it is "only" 285whp, that's not a slow car. I understand there are faster cars, but there are no faster cars with 4 doors, AWD, 6spd manual and the safety and convenience of an STi for the same price or less. Not a single one.

All that to say, I would not trade my "not that fast" Swiss Army knife STi for a 1,000hp Mustang, Camaro, SRT8, or anything of the sort.

Yeah I've been seeing that... Posted my theory over at iwsti

This thread has a lot of pages through which to sift, but I will lend the knowledge that I've gathered (to be taken with a grain of salt of course). If any of this is repost, feel free to ignore.
I admit that I am no ECU expert, though we do know that the 2015 EJ257 uses the prior generation's Denso ECM system not the Hitachi unit in the FA20DIT. However, just because it doesn't use the new ECU doesn't preclude the possibility that the new EJ257 uses the updated strategy in the new Hitachi ECUs. I have, however, talked to a Cobb rep who remained very tight-lipped though mentioned that the Denso ECU DOES in fact use the new ECU strategy. It is very possible that any gains recorded with the new STi does stem from using a more modern fueling strategy than previous generations. I still anticipate that the overall strategy uses Requested Torque, but until the brilliant minds over at the RR forums release the new Defs we won't know for sure. If Subaru indeed adopted the new ECU strategy on the Denso ECMs, the primary driving force for the switch may be one or a combination of three factors:

1. Eliminating premature ring and ringland wear
2. Ever more stringent emissions requirements (it's tough to keep a 25 year old motor chugging along by modern requirements)
3. Consistency across production -- the WRX receives the new strategy so does the STi

I'm hoping that at least some thought went into #1, though for me the 2800rpm "stumble" of the old generation appears to be absent. Whether that is remedied by improved ECU strategy or the addition of more fuel feed/return/balance line, I don't know.

TL;DR: If, in fact the gains are quantifiable over previous generations, my educated guess would be the adoption of a more modern ECU strategy.
2015 CWP WRX STi ... But how did I get roped back into an EJ motor?!

What do you have now? I can't justify an STi for my needs in the first place but I couldn't pay MSRP for a Launch Edition... :/
