BAC Mono - Single Seat Track Toy

The BAC Mono is a single seat, mid-engined, street-legal track day car. If you've got your eye on an Arial Atom, KTM X-bow, or the like, you might want to check this little guy out. Top Gear UK has a nice review (and lap time!) of this in last night's episode (7/7/13). I won't spoil anything, but it's well worth watching.

Carbon fiber body over a steel tube safety cell
    Curb weight: 1,191lbs
    Weight Distribution: 48%/52%

Cosworth naturally aspirated 2.3L four-cylinder sourced from Ford,
    280bhp, 206 lb-ft of torque

    Hewland Formula 3 six-speed sequential
    Limited slip differential
    Electrically operated by paddle shifters

    Fully adjustable double-wishbone system
    two-way adjustable Sachs Racing dampers
Eibach springs (280lb front, 325lb rear)
Adjustable front and rear sway bars

AP Racing 4 piston front and rear
295mm ventilated disks front and rear
    Optional cockpit-adjustable brake bias control

Price: £96,495 (~$144k USD) to start, plus a whole lot more if you're greedy with the options list

There can't be many people out there that have a realistic $150k to dump on a single-seat track toy, and I'm not sure what racing leagues this qualifies for, making a racing team purchase an uncertain investment as well. That said, for those of you out there that want a Formula car you can drive to the grocery store, the BAC Mono offers all the looks and all the tech the pros use in package you can drive to work and back.

    Its cool,

I still prefer Dennis Palatov's creations.

And one of his track toys won the Unlimited class at Pikes Peak last year. With a much smaller budget.

He owned a Bramo atom (you can follow the log on the dpcars site) and shoe horned a Hartley V8 in it and had it working, over 1.5 years before atom released their own v8 car. It was almost as if they waited for him to get it sorted, followed his blog, then copied it. He also highlights the technical deficiencies and suspension problems often seen by atom owners who track their cars.

Like the wheel bearings having a FOS of .8, the Bell cranks on the suspension being regressive etc.

    Definitely worth a read.

That Hewland series gearbox alone is lots of $$$ not just to buy but to service etc. I bit rich for my blood but looks fab nonetheless.
