Fake hood scoops are one of my automotive pet-peeves. It was one of the only styling cues I disliked about my old 4Runner...

Exactly! Someone would ask that looks good what does that scoop do? "Uh nothing" At least on my old EVO, 2 out of 3 scoops were functional. Function over form!

Mazda has been exploring new powerplants for the car. among them is the 2.0 n/a engine with the skyactiv tech. but, in recent news mazda also wants to introduce the new ms3 with awd. having the 2.3T gdi engine plus awd will put it above a 2011-2014 wrx in power specs. 2011-2014 wrx: 265 hp, 244 torque. Current gen MS3: 263 hp, 280 torque. so they have to compromise somewhere to keep the cost competitive with the wrx. the n/a engine is the most sought after engine for the car as per mazda but they are going to squeeze more power out of it. i would expect closer to 250 horse and around the same for torque. then it would be a fair fight.
2011 WRB WRX: DW 850 cc injectors. ProcessWest tmic. Custom SRI. GT spec header. Invidia catted DP. Tsudo CBE. GT spec up-pipe. Tial mv-s ewg. Grimmspeed ebcs. Cobb AP w/ custom tune. STI ssk. ACT stage 2 clutch/pressure plate. StopTech/ Wilwood sport brake system ( front). Whiteline 3-pt adj. sway bars f/r.

For some, people actually took out the plastic center out of the hood scoop and made it purpose built like a WRX.

I just got on the boat but I hear Mazda is going to compete w/ Subie by making a AWD.
