^ I'd assume 6 speed for fuel economy reasons, also every other new Subaru seems to be using a 6 speed. Probably going to use the same one from the legacy gt.

Ooh,hang on. That is the throb of a turbocharged flat four engine. A sound which, all over the world, heralds the imminent arrival of a moron - JC.
Six speed isn't going to help you out any in that sense.. if you're cruising at 3000rpm in 5th with the five speed, going the same speed you would be around 3050rpm in sixth with the six speed.
The advantage of the six speed is that it is much much stronger. The five speed has arguably better ratios and weighs less.
At least that's what I mean and he quoted my reply.
You could always get the "high speed" gear set for the STi six speed. 1-4 are the same ratios as 07+ STi standard ratio, with 5th and 6th being longer.
I doubt Subaru is going to make an all new six speed to put in the WRX that's better than what they use in the STi. WRX would start costing more than the STi if that were the case..
He's right though...
But anyways.. How did this turn into a new wrx thread? Haha
ive considered a few times getting a longer cut 5th gear for my wrx...honestly, when would you miss it?

So, to the topic.
They will probably use a variation of the XT engine. I'm pretty sure the FA-20 has a looooooong life ahead of it. Given Subaru's track record of getting the most from their short blocks.
Side note: My next vehicle will probably be an XT. CVT and all :-)
