Nailed it!
Everyone can relax. No way would they have the new styling for the rex just running around with no camo, unless they really intend for it to just look like an impreza with a hood scoop. Given that the past few years' widebody look are a direct result of them listening to the consumer base and making sure the wrx explicitly doesn't look like an impreza with a hood scoop...I'd think that unlikely.
Edit: Even more confirmed that we can all relax...if you actually go to the article and look at the picture gallery, I'm fairly certain the exhaust cutouts in the rear fascia were done with a sawzall![]()

The panic is hilarious. No way to know what this thing really is. OTOH, I wouldn't put it past Subaru to issue a car that we all now feel is uber-bland. In fairness, it's how all of us felt when the 2008 was shown.

Its not ugly enough. I get a kick out of driving "one of the ugliest cars ever"
And I love the new wagon. Its just quirky, a turbocharged wagon! So wrongfully right =)
Yea, can we put Tony in time out for inciting panic?
TBH, the 08s were bland, and underpowered...they fixed one of those issues with the 09s (referring only to the sedans, as I didn't really pay attention to the hatches until the 11/12s). I happen to really like the looks of the 11/12s, with the wide body etc, but I also really like the hawkeyes

Here is what I spot.
1. Hood scoop (obviously)
2. Side mirror blinkers (only availible on STi models)
3. WRX wheels and tires
4. WRX sized intercooler
5. WRX sized brakes
6. STi 6 speed shift knob (the interesting part. It may just be to throw people off. It could be a 6 speed due to the WRX intercooler.)
7. Quad tipped exhaust...
8. Oil filter on top of the motor
Oh. Has anyone ever though that this could be the Impreza GT?
on the new WRX I spy:
1. In the article it says that the intercooler sticks further up towards the hood. Maybe indicating that it could be the new FA motor.
2. SPT exhaust.

from car and driverWhat It Is: A next-gen Subaru WRX mule prancing about in the body of a current Impreza sedan. Until now, the turbocharged WRX has been based on contemporary Impreza bones, but the new one—and the even-harder-core STI variant—will be split off from the Impreza lineup both in name and mechanical makeup. So although the car seen in these pictures resembles a current-generation Impreza four-door, the 2014 WRX will look quite different.

thought subaru was gonna stop the whole wrx impereza deal and just make them to seperate cars?
Like I mentioned above, it's a Base Impreza Chasis with a scoop on with the next gen wrx Drivetrain/transmission/engine.. They aren't going to just "Show off" the new wrx model like that.. Plus, it has the current WRX Wheels on. (Maybe this means the new WRX will still have the 5x100's?)
