Still sticking to the no turbo rhetoric. Rumors say might be supercharged...

    Cosworth BRZ/FR-S/GT-86 teased.

Note that that Cosworth seems to have sourced their exhaust from Nameless. That's great news for them!

Ugh, that video is designed to chase away anyone over the age of 40 with the music.
So, in about a year, I'll be put to a test. One way or another, it's looking like the WRX will no longer be one of my options for daily driving. My elder child will have a license (July 2015), and will either be driving it, or I'll have gotten rid of it in favor of a more reasonable car for her. We can only insure/park so many cars.

Without 320ft-lbs of torque at my disposal, will my mind suddenly turn to increasing the output on the BRZ? Am I basically still 21-years-old? I fear that I know the answer. A mild supercharging to 250chp would give me an "STI-ish" power/weight ratio. And reduce the longevity of my engine, significantly. Oh well, life is short. I really do not want a turbocharger on there...

I don't think so Ray. I think the FA20 loves boost, even in stock BRZ trim.

I love the instant throttle response too much to go that way. I didn't really know how much "mashing & waiting" I was doing in the WRX 'til I got this car. Supercharging, though...maybe...

That's the thing though, with a freer-breathing turbo, the car would see some serious gains at about 7-9 PSI in the upper range of the powerband. It wouldn't really affect your throttle response!

Having driven a stock FR-S, a supercharged Tacoma, and a turbocharged WRX, I postulate that a supercharger would be best suited to the overall personality of the BRZ. Maintaining a linear torque curve while adding area under the curve would be perfect to the surgical canyon carving nature of the BRZ.

There seems to be better aftermarket support for superchargers as well, and the conversion appears to be more straightforward than a turbo conversion, which makes sense.

I totally agree. If there's a downer, it's the expense, but you have to pay to play. I was looking at these guys a while back:

Twin-Screw Supercharger System Scion FRS, Subaru BRZ, Toyota FT86.

Supposedly a 4 hour install. Which means it would take me 8, but that's still fine.

Yeah, seems like Innovate and Vortech are the kits most people talk about: 2013 Scion FR-S/Subaru BRZ Supercharger Systems | Vortech Superchargers
Not sure which is "better", as they feature very different parts:

    Innovate:
    *Roots-type supercharger
    *Optional water-to-air intercooler

    Vortech:
    *Centrifugal supercharger
    *Standard Front mount air-to-air intercooler

Vortech posts 294hp/210 lb-ft torque, I didn't see numbers posted for Innovate, as a comparison. Looking around some forum threads, it looks like Innovate gains are generally lower, but nearly all of those were for the non-intercooled version, so not a fair comparison.

Either way, it's a serious chunk of change...
